‘Pewter Live' is an annual Design Competition organised by the Worshipful Company of Pewterers to promote the use of pewter in modern products. It comprises two separate competitions, one exclusively for students of all ages from all colleges and universities, and the other an open competition for professional designers.
This year the Open Competition is looking for entrants to design a product that can be used in day-to-day activities by the Company, or given as presentation gifts. Entries for the preliminary Competition (initial design/s or proposal and description) close on 28th January 2016.
The Pewterers' Company has a fine representative collection of British pewter including many pieces of historical importance and items of quality contemporary pewterware.
About the ABPC
The Association of British Pewter Craftsmen (ABPC) was formed in 1970 to support and advance the British Pewter industry. Amongst its founding members was the Worshipful Company of Pewterers of the City of London (the Worshipful Company).
The Worshipful Company dates from at least 1348 and by a Royal Charter of 1474 had the right to regulate the Pewter trade throughout the land. Whilst that right no longer exists, the Worshipful Company continues to promote and support the pewter industry as one of its key objectives.
The ABPC has, by promoting high standards, raising awareness of pewter and encouraging innovation and excellence in manufacturing, achieved impressive results; and, together with the Worshipful Company, has helped to establish British pewter firmly in both domestic and worldwide markets.
